Now one of the things I should do is to find out about the history of Smithy Cottage, particularly as it holds such a prominent position on an island so rich in history.
Here you can see a distinctive feature of many of the island buildings, where the distinctive (tarred?) roof featuring a domed ridge contrasts with deep walls to keep the Atlantic weather at bay.
