Berneray

Brian

Brian and his ladies supply delicious fresh free range eggs on the tiny island of Berneray, North Uist. Available from Ardmaree Stores, just up the road from the ferry slipway, or even better ‘from the door’ at the Passing Place Gallery, Rushgarry, Berneray, they’re really good! Brian’s wonderful ‘fly-away’ Tail feathers provided perfect inspiration for… Continue reading Brian

Approaching Storm

An unforgettable day! My husband and I were sharing some time on Berneray, North Uist, in part celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary, but also this was the actual day when he reached “three-score years and ten”! How we savoured the moment….the day dawned bright and breezy, and we had planned a leisurely walk up the… Continue reading Approaching Storm

May Sunshine

I love visiting Berneray  in May….often there is warm sunshine, although one has to be prepared for icy weather , even in early summer!  These lambs were relaxing on a warm day as I walked across from the hostel  to the bus stop.  Buses are not frequent, but very reliable, but my preference is to enjoy… Continue reading May Sunshine

Approaching Storm (2)

I enjoyed painting “Approaching Storm” so much that I immediately painted another one!  I should do more of these – weather is such an important factor in life ‘on the edge’, and there are often wonderful skies!

Ardmaree Peninsula, Berneray

The first sketch I carried out on the island – feeling extra keen, I caught the early bus and got going! But the morning turned decidedly damp, so this is as far as I got!

Bus Terminus (2)

Bus Terminus (1)

My favourite spot on the island! Buses are not frequent, but you can set your watch by them….I just like to sit and enjoy…and sometimes draw the scenery!

Bus Terminus (3)

The bus might look slightly different these days, but this is a familiar sight!

A Berneray Calf

Invited one day to draw twin calves while on the island – what a wonderful opportunity!

A Berneray Croft (1)

This view of one of the twin calves I painted on Berneray is one of a triptych. Croft buildings and the Minch can be seen in the background.

A Berneray Croft (2)

The second picture in my triptych of a Berneray Croft, painted on the island.  This is the twins’ mum!

A Berneray Croft (3)

The third picture in my Croft triptych features the second calf! This lovely subject  will be the basis of a number of pieces of work  , as I found it a fascinating one! I had been challenged to find suitable subjects for making triptych paintings in a square format , thus providing material for creating… Continue reading A Berneray Croft (3)

Going Home

Hopefully one day fishing boats will frequent British waters in greater numbers once again.  Meanwhile I always enjoy watching any boat activity passing by . Here on the Minch it’s thankfully a frequent sight, and often there’s fresh seafood to be had, caught, dressed and sold on the same day! “Going Home”. Gouache Cameo. c. It’s always good to see the crab boats out in the bay, as with any luck fresh dressed crab might be available for tea! Delicious! I don’t know whether this one was out for crabs, or had been elsewhere on an errand, but the boat attracted me with its bright colours and nice lines. TITLE… Continue reading Well Loaded
